Rough skin model

Hairless mice: Periods of rough skin preparation, treatment and measurement: Negotiable
Agents used for preparation of rough skin: Acetone, acetone/ether
Transepidermal water loss (TEWL) values will be compared.

Model animals will be prepared by UVB irradiation.
Evaluation will be made by observation for wrinkles and by preparation of replica.

Hairless mice: UVB irradiation: 345 μW/cm2 for 2 min 54 sec
Observation for wrinkles: 3 times/week for 10 weeks
Treatment with the test substance: once/day for 8 weeks
Observation for wrinkles: once/week for 8 weeks

Evaluation of new hair growth/hair restoration

C3H mice (number required: 10-12): Evaluation based on the days and areas of new hair growth and the length and weight of hair.
